Who I am
“My outlook on makeup is simply this- in order to feel beautiful, you must feel comfortable. it’s my job to Build tHat connection with you to learn more about who you are, your personality and your personal style. There is No one recIpe for a beautiFul well executed makeup.“
Where it all began…
One of my earliest memories in life was when I was only a few years old. Laying on my belly on my Nana's living room floor, surrounded by crayons of every color and white paper -and with consistent encouragement and guidance from my mother -she helped to encourage every scribble and shape I made. These little "works of art" were the beginning of what I consider now to be one of my greatest gifts in my life- my artistry!
Originally from the beautiful island of Cape Breton- I grew up on a small Native Reserve with a tiny population of about 700 people. I take great pride in my mixed Mi’kmaw and Scottish heritage.
After graduating high school in 2006- I decided to move to the beautiful city of Halifax to pursue my career as an artist. I attended NSCAD University that fall - working towards my BFA degree with a major in Photography. Focusing mainly on portraiture and fashion photography during my studies- I fell in love with my natural ability to connect and work with new people, many of which became the subjects of my project and work.
I began to branch out into more creative "out of the box" projects - many in which involved makeup as part of the artistic vision. I had other makeup artists involved in my work at the time- but quite often became unsatisfied or frustrated as my complete concept I envisioned wasn't always executed the way in which I’d like.
It was at that point that I picked up a makeup brush and began what unknowingly at the time became my future career -Makeup artistry!
In August of 2008, I landed a career with an international reputable makeup brand. This is really what played a pivotal role in helping me develop my skill set and gave me incomparable experience in regards to doing every type of makeup on every age, skin tone, skin type and gender.
Although makeup was always my main focus, throughout the years I’ve regretted not pushing myself forward with photography and other outlets as well. I’ve thought for so long that I should just focus on only doing one thing, and get really good at it- but realize now that i’ve been limiting myself.
In 2020, COVID-19 was a year of realizations for a lot of us. This was the year I realized that I’ve been limiting my full potential as a visual artist. I have a broad skill set that I should be very proud of and should harness- and with that came the birth of the idea of rebranding a new company - Makeup by Jordynn.
Makeup by Jordynn will be my new brand that will eventually encompass all of my skillsets from Makeup to Photography to Digital Artistry, Illustration, Content Creation and so forth.
I welcome you to be a part of this new journey as I embark on a new chapter in life.
